2023 looks like it could be a bumper year for video games and players of all types. So, let’s take a look at some of the biggest and best games that will be released in 2023.
Many of these games are scheduled for release in 2022 but have been delayed, but there are also many brand new games that come to our consoles and PCs during 2023.
If you’re wondering what’s going to be in video games in 2023, you’ve come to the right place. Here are 10 games we can’t wait to play in 2023.
1. Hogwarts Legacy
Harry Potter fans, hold your wallets as Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to be released on February 10, 2023. The Harry Potter series has witnessed many video games during its long reign. But Hogwarts Legacy looks set to raise the bar dramatically.
Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG from Portkey Games. But unlike most Harry Potter games, the legendary character won’t be the star of the show this time. You will. Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world game that lets you build your own adventure. You have complete freedom to live out your Harry Potter fantasies in Hogwarts Legacy.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Of all the games released in 2023, many gamers will immediately think of one. That, of course, is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. After all, it did win the Most Anticipated Game Award at the Game Awards 2022, and rightfully so.
This is the sequel to the much-loved Nintendo Switch debut game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. For five years, players have been waiting with bated breath to continue Link’s story. If this epic open-world RPG hadn’t been delayed, it would surely be one of the best Nintendo Switch games of 2022, but we can’t wait to get our hands on May 12, 2023.
3. Redfall
2022 has been a great year for gamers. Unless, of course, you’re wandering around looking for Xbox-exclusive games to add to your collection. Xbox has big plans in early 2022. But unfortunately, none of these plans really materialized, and Redfall is one of the victims of 2022.
It’s not all bad news, though, because 2023 is just around the corner and the wait is almost over. Xbox gamers can expect to kill some vampires in the upcoming first-person shooter sometime in 2023.
4. Starfield
Redfall is a disappointing loss for Xbox gamers in 2022, but the most notable delay this year is likely to be Starfield. Starfield is an upcoming action role-playing game from Bethesda Softworks that will compete with The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom Tears in the most anticipated game of 2023.
Starfield suffered the same fate as Redfall in 2022, with its original November 11 release date pushed back to sometime in 2023. But Starfield fans can look forward to experiencing a Skyrim-Esque space adventure firsthand in early 2023. I hope so.
5. Fire Emblem Engage
Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo’s most successful franchises, and fans haven’t seen a new mainline from the series since 2019’s Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Fire Emblem Engage is a Nintendo Switch exclusive game that will be released on January 20, 2023.
The Fire Emblem series is known for its reliable tactical role-playing games. Tactical RPGs offer a more strategic approach to turn-based combat, where you move your character around the battlefield like a pawn.
They first became popular in the West through games such as Final Fantasy Strategy, and have since gradually become a very popular genre.
6. Sea of Stars
Big-budget AAA games usually get a lot of publicity and generate a lot of interest and anticipation for their release. But indie games are just as interesting, if not more fun than big-budget games. Xinghai is a good example.
Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG with a beautiful pixel art style that strikes straight at the nostalgia of any veteran player. “Star Sea” was originally scheduled to be released in 2022, but unfortunately it was also postponed to 2023.
7. Forspoken
Almost everything Square Enix touches turns into gold, and Forspoken looks like no exception. Starting in 2023, this action RPG looks set to contain some of the most epic fast-paced combat.
The storyline will also look very unique, a refreshing change in pace in a market saturated with games. Forspoken will be released on PlayStation 5 and Windows on January 24, 2023.
8. Diablo IV
If you like action RPGs, epic boss battles, highly fantasy character design, and the ability to share it all with your friends, you’ll love Diablo IV. The Diablo series of games is known for having great stories and seemingly endless character customization. Diablo games also have a huge number of playable levels to choose from, which gives the game a lot of playability.
Diablo IV looks bigger and worse than any previous Diablo. The legend of Diablo is an epic existence, so we can’t wait to see what the latest installment in the series on June 6, 2023 will bring us.
9. Final Fantasy XVI
The Final Fantasy series needs little introduction. It is a very popular turn-based JRPG series that has entertained gamers with many games for years. The latest installment in the Final Fantasy series will land on June 22, 2023.
Final Fantasy XVI is the second Square Enix game on the list and will be released as a limited-time exclusive on PlayStation 5. This may cause concern for some long-time fans of the series, as the PS5 stock shortage will continue into 2022 and beyond. But luckily for those who don’t have a PS5, there are plans to release it on other consoles at some point in the future.
10. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
The 2009 film “Avatar” sat more often on its throne and became the highest-grossing blockbuster. So it’s no surprise to see that the video games inspired by it are also incredibly popular. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an open-world action-adventure game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Windows, and Amazon Luna.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has a very wide release window of April 2023 to March 2024. But many gamers have their fingers crossed for a late 2023 release.
2023 will be an epic year for players
With so many incredible games coming out in 2023, we can feel our wallets crying and our thumbs already cramping. Many of these games have been delayed. It can be frustrating, but at the end of the day, it’s better to postpone a game than to release an incomplete one.
If you don’t know what games to look forward to in the coming year, any of these games are sure to get your gaming enthusiast.
