How to update apps on Windows 11

Updates are your answer to fixing bugs and corruption that appear randomly in Windows apps. In addition, they can patch any security vulnerabilities that hackers may exploit later.

Application publishers frequently release updates to help you patch all of the above issues. On Windows 11, you have different ways to get these updates. Next, let’s take a look at all of these ways.

How to Update Windows 11 Apps

There are two broad categories of applications on any Windows 11 PC. Microsoft Store apps and third-party apps. We’ll cover each of these two types of applications, so let’s get started.

Update third-party apps on Windows 11

Let’s take a look at the third-party applications first. Third-party apps include all the apps that aren’t available in the Microsoft Store.

The only way to update these apps is through the app interface itself. Launch the app and tap on the built-in Update button. For example, we will first try to update PDFsam, a professional PDF editing application. Then, all we have to do is head to the updates section of the app and tap download to get the latest update.

In this case, there is also a feature that enables automatic updates, as you can see above. That’s how you can update most third-party applications on your Windows 11 PC.

How to update Microsoft store apps

Microsoft Store apps are those that you download from the Microsoft Store. You have two ways to update such an application. You can do it manually or automatically. In general, automatic updates are enabled by default, but you can also do it manually. Here’s how.

1.  Go to the Start menu search bar, enter Microsoft Store, and select Best Bets.

2.  In the Microsoft Store app, select Library from the lower-left corner of the screen.

3.  Click Get updates to check for and download all app updates on your system.

In doing so, the Microsoft Store will check for all available updates and download them one by one.

Enable Automatic Updates

Automatic updates keep you safe by installing the latest patches as soon as they appear. So if you have automatic updates enabled, you don’t have to think about it at all. Even though in some cases you may want to disable automatic updates, on most Windows PCs, it is enabled by default. However, in case it is disabled, or you just want to check it out, here are the steps you need to follow.

Open the Microsoft Store app, tap the profile icon, and select App Settings. There, make sure you’ve toggled the app update option – this will enable automatic updates for your Windows 11.
